Dr. John Ludu
While his early interests included becoming a professional ice hockey player in the NHL, Dr. Ludu’s childhood dream eventually led to a vastly different career path – dentistry. As a dentist near Lakewood, he earned his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry with a minor in chemistry from the University of British Columbia. He then went on to Tufts University School of Dental Medicine to receive his doctorate.
With an impressive educational background, Dr. Ludu decided to pursue advanced surgical training at Peninsula Hospital in Far Rockaway, New York, completing various courses in implantology and endodontics. But his commitment to continuing education didn’t stop there. He also completed a mini-residency in dental sleep medicine.
As a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and the Academy of General Dentistry, he remains an avid learner and believes in staying up to date on the latest changes and advancements in the field of dentistry.
When he’s not in the office, you’ll often find him spending time with his children and friends.

Unfortunately I had to have some teeth extracted but somehow Dr. Ludu made it a pleasant experience. He was friendly and engaging and kept me calm and relaxed before the procedure. I could not believe how fast he had the teeth extracted. The whole team is amazing - friendly and good at their jobs. They created a plan for me to return to good dental health and I am looking forward to future visits.

As a dentist’s office near Lakewood, we invite you to experience the expertise our team can provide, and you can start by reviewing the following questions and answers below. If you don’t see yours listed, just give us a call!
How much does a dental checkup and cleaning cost in Lakewood?
The average price you can expect to pay for a dental checkup and teeth cleaning is between $200 and $300. However, this is just a range. No two smiles are alike, so there is a chance that you may pay more or less for this method of preventive care. Typically, your dentist near Lakewood will want to know if you are planning to use your dental insurance to pay for treatment, as this is the most effective way to save. Most plans will likely cover 80-100% of the cost for these six-month visits; however, each plan is different, so you’ll need to check with your insurance carrier.
How do I find the best place to get dental work done?
To determine the answer, you must first ask yourself what you deem most important from a dental practice. What you want and/or prefer will help you determine who you would like to take care of your oral healthcare needs. Do you prefer a specialist or general dentist? Do you want someone in-network with your insurance? Are you looking for a dentist who can treat all ages? Would you rather see someone closer to your home or office?
Dupont Family Dentistry is here to provide comprehensive and complete dental care to patients of all ages, and we look forward to providing exceptional dentistry every time you visit.
How can I get emergency dental care?
It’s important that you follow these steps to get the emergency care you need and deserve. You’ll want to start by determining the severity of your injury. If you have a broken or fractured jaw, excessive bleeding, or swelling that is inhibiting your ability to breathe, get to your local emergency room right away. Otherwise, call our office and alert us to the situation. We will offer first-aid tips that you can use at home to better manage the pain until you can reach our office.
When you arrive, we will quickly work to help you out of pain. After taking digital images of your mouth and performing a visual exam, we’ll craft a treatment plan that we will go over with you. Once you are satisfied with the plan, we will begin to address the problem area so you can enjoy a damage-free smile.
What are the qualifications to become a dentist?
It is essential that dentists earn a Doctor of Dental Medicine or Doctor of Dental Surgery from an accredited university or institution. This usually takes about three years depending on the program. Once they receive their license to practice, they must commit to pursuing a designated amount of continuing education hours each year to maintain their licensure.
Some dentists may choose to enter into a specialty field, as there are roughly 12 specializations recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA). These can include endodontics, pediatrics, periodontics, prosthodontics, orthodontics, and more.
